Interstellar Review
When I first heard about the movie, Interstellar, I thought it would be another science fiction adventure where the hero saves the day and all is well; and while such movies are enjoyable, they are also unoriginal. When I watched Interstellar the first time, I was stunned.
Considering the fact that a theoretical physicist served as a consultant during the making of the film and ensured that the science fiction part of the movie was scientifically accurate, the story is all the more potent.
The concept of a supremely advanced species or aliens helping mankind survive is not new; but the idea that the species could be none other than humans, is astounding. To suggest the possibility that mankind might evolve to the extent of making hitherto inconceivable, technological advancements, like actively creating a wormhole in Space and a penteract (tesseract- 4 dimensions plus one) in space-time; to allude that man might have the power to bend Time to his will, is mind-boggling.
In terms of the story itself, Interstellar is not just about one man’s quest to save Earth and reunite with his children. It is about a father’s love for his child that gives him the strength to fight against all odds; it is about a daughter’s undying faith in her father and her tremendous strength and courage in the face of utter despair. It is about a disillusioned scientist who breaks under the strain and a noble one brave enough to listen to her heart. It is about the power of love, how it defies space and time and how this stupendous power comes from the spirit of man.
Interstellar is in a class by itself; not only does the movie propose some amazing science fiction ideology but it is set in a powerfully moving story, making it all the more awe-inspiring. When depicted through awesome visual imagery, articulate prose and backed by spine-tingling music, this science fiction epic leaves an ineradicable impact on our flitting minds.
Interstellar challenges religious dogma and distils scientific thought. For a science fiction movie, it is daringly spiritual. For a drama film, it is highly intellectual. It contests our conditioned thought processes and broadens our minds. It humbles the ego and uplifts the soul.
