Jurassic World Review

Jurassic World is a Sci Fi- Adventure movie that completely lives upto its genre. The dinosaurs look chillingly real. Claire, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, is the park’s operations manager. She is a highly efficient, organized and courageous woman, in keeping with the strong female leads that Michael Crichton portrays in his books.  Owen, played by Chris Pratt, is the swashbuckling Velociraptor trainer. Romance quietly brews between Claire and Owen as they attempt to save her nephews and vanquish the terrible and awe-inspiring Indominus Rex; a mutant dinosaur created in the lab using the DNA of various dinosaurs and other creatures.

The nephews, Zach and Gray, do pretty well surviving on their own initially, a testament to Michael Crichton’s portrayal of children in his novels as smart, resourceful and brave. The relation between the two brothers flourishes in the movie; however the chemistry between the actors (Nick Robinson and Ty Simpkins) is practically non-existent.

There are some other turn-offs. Hoskins, the InGen head of security, gives a longwinded and boring speech when he tries to convince Owen of his plan of enlisting Velociraptors in the military. Buildings and helicopters often look like toys; a pair of twenty-two year old night goggles still works. Zach jumpstarts a jeep lying unused for nearly two decades, in tropical climate. Claire waits for the T-Rex to come within spitting distance before she outruns it in stilettos.

Otherwise, the movie is thoroughly engaging and exciting. It highlights the warped nature of consumerism in the form of a dangerous hybrid dinosaur created to appease the demanding and fickle masses. It undeniably succeeds in thrilling the mind with its epic dino-on-dino action. All in all, a really good movie and a must-watch.
